David J. Kingland is the founder and CEO of Kingland, responsible for setting the vision and direction of the company and building on a legacy of software, data, consulting services and solutions the company has provided to clients in the accounting, financial services, and insurance industries. Established in 1992, Mr. Kingland founded Kingland when national banks began to enter the retail brokerage business and required next generation compliance and trading systems to support their geographically dispersed operations. Prior, Mr. Kingland founded and served as President and CEO of Kingland Capital, a SEC registered Broker/Dealer that pioneered the bank-based, full-service retail brokerage business model. Mr. Kingland sold Kingland Capital and formed Kingland to focus on the technology needs of top tier bank and broker/dealer institutions. Mr. Kingland began his career in the brokerage business in 1981 with Edward Jones and Company, a New York Stock Exchange member firm. Mr. Kingland holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Administration from Iowa State University and holds numerous SEC and FINRA securities brokerage licenses. He actively serves on executive boards of Iowa State University and numerous local non-profit organizations.
Todd Rognes is the President of Kingland, responsible for operational management of the company in all US and international locations. Before becoming President of Kingland, Mr. Rognes served as CFO of the company for 14 years. Mr. Rognes is a seasoned leader of private and public software and professional services businesses. Prior to joining Kingland, Mr. Rognes spent 13 years with DocuCorp International, a Texas-based, publicly traded document automation software company and its predecessor company, Image Sciences, Inc. Mr. Rognes held several managerial and executive positions at DocuCorp and was involved in the negotiation and integration of several acquisitions, including the Initial Public Offering of DocuCorp. Mr. Rognes holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from Iowa State University and is a Certified Public Accountant. Mr. Rognes serves on the Iowa State University Accounting Advisory Board and the Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa Board.
Phil Birkedal is a Kingland partner, responsible for operational management of several of the company’s software and professional services business units. Mr. Birkedal has been with Kingland and its predecessor company, Kingland Capital, since inception and has extensive experience leading Kingland’s data and compliance focused solution teams, as well as serving many of the company’s international audit, brokerage, and banking clients. With a background as a Certified Public Accountant, Mr. Birkedal is known for his rigor in creating high quality solutions ranging from complex database solutions to developing, implementing, and operating transaction, commission processing and compliance systems. Prior to Kingland, Mr. Birkedal was the CFO of Kingland Capital and worked extensively with regulators including FINRA, SEC, and various state regulators. Mr. Birkedal holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting from the University of Northern Iowa and has held a number of SEC/FINRA registrations and licenses including General Securities, Financial and Operations Principal, and General Securities Principal.
Tony Brownlee is a Kingland partner, responsible for leading and setting the strategy for the company’s Data Science and Research solutions and business worldwide. Mr. Brownlee has been instrumental in leading data initiatives at Kingland, as a founding member of the Kingland team that built the company’s first data platform, to his work with the Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) developing the first LEI platform in the world for DTCC, and his work today leading Kingland’s work in data quality and industry solutions using cognitive technologies. Mr. Brownlee’s leadership extends across the company as he has managed numerous operational, product development, business development, and client relationship management functions for the company. Additionally, Mr. Brownlee manages Kingland’s strategic relationships and partnerships with many of the leading technology companies, data vendors, and consulting companies. Mr. Brownlee is recognized as a thought leader in the financial services industry and speaks regularly at industry events on data quality, data governance, data standards, legal entity and hierarchy data, and cognitive technologies. Within the industry, Mr. Brownlee has served on various committees including the Securities Industry Financial Markets Association (SIFMA); the International Standards Organization (ISO); the Financial Stability Board (FSB) for the LEI; and the Enterprise Data Management Council (EDMC). Prior to joining Kingland, Mr. Brownlee worked in the financial services industry providing consulting services for a top ten global bank and an international agri-business company. Mr. Brownlee holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Central College in Pella, Iowa; an MBA from Iowa State University; and serves on advisory boards of both institutions.
Bob Baoguo Li is the General Manager of Kingland’s Dalian, China Software Development Lab. Mr. Li opened and set up the Software Development Lab in 2012 and plays a key role in the direction and oversight of the Dalian teams. He oversees several areas, including work efforts, facilities, employees, local service providers, and government compliance and regulation for the Software Development Lab. Mr. Li is a seasoned software development and project management manager, specializing in leading solution deliveries to financial industry clients. Prior to joining Kingland, Mr. Li worked at IBM for nine years and was responsible for delivery strategy and management of insurance industry projects. He also spent seven years with Accenture, providing coaching and leadership for large software development and maintenance projects. Mr. Li holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Automatic Control from Tsinghua University and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
Trond Gjendem is the Compliance Solution Engineering Lead at Kingland, responsible for architecting software solutions and overseeing the engineering staff within the Compliance Solution area. As a member of Kingland's engineering leadership group, Mr. Gjendem contributes to the strategic direction for corporate software architecture and engineering processes and standards, including CMMI. Mr. Gjendem has 25 years of experience in software engineering and information technology, the majority of those years were spent developing solutions for the auditing and regulatory compliance field. Before joining Kingland, Mr. Gjendem spent seven years with PricewaterhouseCoopers, providing technical leadership for large projects and development teams. Mr. Gjendem holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He is a Certified Scrum Master (CSM) and a member of the Scrum Alliance.
Matt Good is a senior architect and leader for Kingland, responsible for strategic technologies including master data management (MDM), business process management (BPM) and other information management and cognitive software. Over the past 15 years, Mr. Good has gained a variety of experiences at Kingland, IBM and SPSS in architecting and engineering software solutions and leading teams focused on compliance, predictive analytics, data collection, and brokerage web and reporting applications. Additionally, Mr. Good has provided his expertise to numerous executives within multi-national enterprises. He has also provided overall leadership within Kingland’s software engineering internship program and relationship with Iowa State University. Mr. Good has achieved certifications related to Java, MDM development, and IBM technologies and has been a speaker at technical conferences. He graduated from Iowa State University with degrees in Computer Science and Music.
Jeff Gorball serves as the Chief Security Officer for Kingland, responsible for directing the company’s information assurance and business continuity standards, as well as managing all US facilities. Mr. Gorball leads the company’s practice for data management maturity (DMM) services and was one of the first 10 individuals in the world to be certified as a DMM Enterprise Data Management Expert. Mr. Gorball launched and is responsible for Kingland’s strategic relationship with Carnegie Mellon and the CMMI Institute, which ultimately developed the DMM Model, of which Mr. Gorball is one of three primary authors. Mr. Gorball has served in numerous leadership positions throughout the company from Senior Vice President of Operations to leading many of the company’s data and software teams. Prior to joining Kingland, Mr. Gorball retired from the Marine Corps after 24 years of active service in the communications field. Mr. Gorball holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management of Information Systems from Park University. Mr. Gorball is a member of the Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association (AFCEA), the academics advisory board for the information technology curriculum for the North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC), and the Iowa CIO Forum.
Alex Olson is a Kingland Partner, responsible for leading and setting the strategy for strategic client engagement across solutions and business worldwide. Mr. Olson is recognized as a thought leader in the banking and capital markets industry, accounting and audit profession, and insurance industry and speaks regularly at industry events on data quality, master data management, data governance, cognitive computing, entity and hierarchy data. Mr. Olson has a track record of leading complex software engineering, data quality, and risk and compliance projects and programs for Kingland’s global banking and audit clients. With more than 15 years of Kingland experience, Mr. Olson has significant expertise in data management, quality assurance, systems engineering, and process engineering and improvement. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University with specializations in electronic business, economics, and finance and has earned the Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) and Certified Scrum Master (CSM) designations.
Jason Toyne is the Chief Technology Officer at Kingland, responsible for our Hub Solutions business including our Enterprise Hub MDM and Legal Entity Identifiers (LEI) software solutions. Mr. Toyne is also responsible for corporate strategic technologies including information management software, compliance tooling, software development lifecycle tools and DevOps initiatives. Specializing in creating enterprise-class software that aligns user interface design with best practices in the creation of algorithms designed to facilitate change in multiple data areas, Mr. Toyne is a leading innovator in big data mining, master data management, and services-oriented architecture (SOA). Mr. Toyne has been instrumental in architecting and engineering Kingland's brokerage and financial services applications and industry-leading Compliance Solutions. He is a Sun-Certified Programmer and Developer, recognized as an innovator in software engineering, and is a featured technical speaker.
Jon Loge is a Senior Leader within Kingland, responsible for our Firm Independence solution software teams and as well as leading Kingland’s best practices and corporate standards in software Quality Control. Prior to Kingland, Mr. Loge worked for Wolters Kluwer Financial Services, leading teams serving regional and national banking institutions and was a member of their Software Quality Assurance Master Process Team. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Cloud State University with specializations in Computer Information Systems and is a Certified Software Test Engineer (CSTE). Mr. Loge serves on many local non-profit organizations and community boards.
Jeff Jacobs is the Controller for Kingland, responsible for managing and overseeing accounting, financial reporting, forecasting, audit and control. Mr. Jacobs is also responsible for the Kingland’s human resources function. Prior to joining Kingland, Mr. Jacobs was an Audit Manager at KPMG where he was responsible for the coordination and overall management of integrated and financial statement audits of financial services organizations. He also served as the primary campus recruiter for the Des Moines, Iowa office where he led the firm’s recruiting initiatives at private and public institutions in Iowa. He has a strong knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley regulations, PCAOB auditing standards, US GAAP, and SEC reporting requirements. Mr. Jacobs holds a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Central College in Pella, IA where he graduated Manga Cum Laude and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensed in Iowa.
James Niemants serves on the Board of Directors of Kingland, as well as the Investment Committee. Mr. Niemants has over 14 years of banking experience, including six years as the President of Hawkeye Bank & Trust. Upon leaving the banking industry, Mr. Niemants joined Kingland Capital, Kingland predecessor company, as an Investment Representative, ultimately becoming President before Kingland Capital merged with SWS Financial. Today, he continues to work as an investment professional with SWS Financial Services serving the North Iowa area. Additionally, Mr. Niemants serves on both the North Area Community College (NIACC) Board of Directors and Foundation Board, where he is an Investment committee member. Mr. Niemants graduated from Drake University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
Micah McGill is a Solution Leader and Project Manager within Kingland, responsible for the personal independence solution software team. She is also the Scrum Master of the Kingland Marketing team. Micah has managed fifteen major releases and seventy minor releases over the last five years. Miss McGill holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance from Central College in Pella, Iowa and a Masters in Business Administration from Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa. Miss McGill has earned the Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) and Certified Scrum Master (CSM) designations.
Amanda Kasten is a Program Manager and Client Executive for the Data Science and Research solution. She is also responsible for setting the strategic direction for corporate project and program management processes, standards and training. Mrs. Kasten has managed large and complex software engineering, compliance, analytics, data quality and process improvement projects and programs. Prior to joining Kingland, Mrs. Kasten was an Engineering Project Specialist at Rockwell Collins where she was responsible for managing multiple large, global flight controls projects. Amanda holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration with concentration in Marketing and Management, along with a minor in Leadership from Wartburg College. Mrs. Kasten is a Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Scrum Master (CSM) and Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO).
Courtney Hiveley is a Client Executive for Kingland, responsible for managing client relationships and business development within Kingland’s Data Science and Research business. Specializing in reference data management and data quality services for legal entity, securities and corporate hierarchies, Mrs. Hiveley has helped build and maintain a high quality, reliable, and scalable data management program. With her diversified experience within Financial Services, as well as her background in reference data management and data governance, she has been able to assist clients with their needs for regulatory reporting, reducing operational costs and/or maintaining compliance. Mrs. Hiveley holds a Bachelor of Liberal Studies from Iowa State University and is currently working towards earning her Master of Business Analytics Degree.
Janice Anderson is a Principal Business Analyst and Project Manager/Scrum Master at Kingland. Over the past thirty years, Ms. Anderson has gained expertise in business analysis, project management, scrum processes, requirements management, data management, data interfaces, securities trading and investments, product management, testing, database management and process management. In the past, she has managed the Kingland Data Science and Research team and lead teams developing several web applications. More recently, Janice has worked on projects related to securities and entity data risk and portfolio management, as well as the expansion of corporate tooling used in day-to-day business activities.
